Why Holding Off on Getting your MRI because of the Coronavirus may not be in Your Best Interest

During the initial spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, patients were advised to only visit the hospital for emergency services. But as it becomes apparent that the coronavirus will not be going away anytime soon, holding off on getting your MRI because of the coronavirus may not be in your best interest any longer.

The MRI scan is an advanced imaging study that helps distinguish between healthy tissue and diseased tissue inside your body. Based on the MRI scan results, your doctor can make an accurate diagnosis and plan treatment. The MRI is also a very important tool for treatment followup and post-surgery monitoring. Followup MRIs are ordered to check on how well you are responding to treatment so changes can be made to the treatment depending on the scan results. The MRI procedure itself is very safe and does not use harmful radiation, so your overall health or immunity is not compromised.

Getting essential medical care at the appropriate time is necessary for maintaining your health and bolstering your immune system. If you have been recommended to undergo an MRI scan as part of your medical care, you are better off getting it done rather than risking progression of disease and deterioration in health that could lead to the need for emergency medical service at a later date; and possible increased risk for a hospital acquired coronavirus infection.

At Houston MRI, we do everything possible to make sure you stay safe, including providing masks, temperature checks using no-touch infrared thermometers, and the complete cleaning of our facility with the advanced BIOPROTECT disinfection technology that is known to be effective against COVID-19. Please call us for more information.
